Video sum up: What is the difference between a $10 and a $50 wine?
It’s harder to identify a less expensive wine of quality than an expensive wine.
The price of a wine could be explained by two main reason:
- The production costs: grapes of better quality, better barrels, winemaking and the expertise were of better quality…
- The law of offer and demand: some wines are rarer and thus more expensive
But does it means that a $50 is 5 times better than a $10 wine? Absolutely NOT.
Winemaking technics have improved and widespread. So today it is far less a challenge to find very good wines under $20. Look for wines in region like Tasmania, South America, South Africa for example. You have to explore.
Will you find the same complexity, nuancy in a $10 than a $50? Probably not
But is the wine $50 worth it? Probably not.
So keep trying wine and ask for recommandations with regards to your budget to your local wine shop.
